This book – “Ten
Little Night Stars” – by Deb Gruelle and illustrated by Gabi Murphy is an
adorable bedtime book. Designed to put children to sleep – or to be used as
part of their bedroom routine – this a simple story with a purpose and vibrant
illustrations.
Children ages 0-2
would enjoy this book the most. It is simple, but engaging. Each spread
features an animal child and parent: an elephant, a panda, a lion, etc. The
illustrations are intentionally drawn to lure boys and girls. Each page spread
takes place in a room in the animal child’s house, and some rooms are drawn in
boys’ themes and some in girls’. Each room has a window in which a new star
appears each time the pages turn. Each new star is announced with a rhyme –
written in such a way that the kid can guess the number that comes next.
This would be a fun
read-along book as the kids try to guess the numbers. The pictures are bubbly
and captivating and contain lots for kids to look at: rubber duckies on the
window sill, building blocks and stuffed animals on the floor, a mobile hanging
above the dresser, and more.
I highly recommend
this book! I sweet, simple read that is intentionally written and luringly
illustrated.
